We learned about the caves of Duluk, when we were relating to how long food culture has been around Gaziantep for our cuisine film. Arriving at the location and visiting the caves was a surreal experience.
International archaeologists have found traces of settlement up to 600,000 years ago. These hominini would not have resembled out evolved human race that we see daily. Instead they may have been 3′ to 4′ tall, walk very ape like and communicate through the use of sounds, shapes, gestures and carvings.
When you look at the pictures imagine some of our first ancestors walking. moving, interacting, and returning from the hunt to eat around these caves.
Of course over the years, multiple civilizations may have called this home from idol worshippers, animal sacrificing cultures to Christian churches, these caves were a basis of family and spiritual life.
It was an eery yet spirit filled environment that when taking a moment of silence within the cave, one could feel the presence of thousands of generations.Gaziantep_Turkey_cuisine_food_its_jeff_young_blog_travel-23Gaziantep_Turkey_Antep_Caves_of_Duluk_Archaeology_HomeOf_its_jeff_young_blog_travel_Day8_2Gaziantep_Turkey_cuisine_food_its_jeff_young_blog_travel-22
