Dealing with negative feedback can be daunting and can trigger many buried emotions.
Have you ever shared a dream, plan or goal with someone close to you who responded with a less than supportive comment?
Usually the responses go something like,
‘Are you sure thats what you want? ‘,
‘Thats gonna be hard.’
‘Thats gonna take a lot of work.’
Are you following your dream for the acclaim of others ?
Now those are not completely negative feedbacks in themselves, but often times I have felt my inner response to shirk into hiding at these immediate responses. I clam up, my enthusiasm lags, and I generally begin to change the focus of the conversation. As if I never mentioned anything at all.
At that moment one must have a positive self talk, a positive affimation or inner mantra that is used over and over and over again until you beat out the inner critic.
positive self talk, a positive affirmation or inner mantra must be used over and over again to re-condition the mind
Les Brown, phenomenal motivational speaker, says at that point you must know within yourself who you are doing it for. Are you following your dream for the acclaim of others? Think about it.
We hear a lot of defining your ‘WHY?” but sometimes its easier than that.
If the answer is, ‘no, I’m not doing for the acclaim of others, I’m not doing it because my family wants me to, I’m not doing it because my partner wants me to,’ stick with the remainder of his thought….
I’m not doing this for you, I’m doing this for me.
When I chant this to myself my inner fire is stoked, my energy changes and my overall outlook is enhanced. I become the go-getter. I become the man of my dreams and you can too.
Become the person you want to be. Constantly fill your mind and heart with ‘I’m doing this for me.’ Stake your claim and what you want to do with these results. Help yourself. Help your family, Help your friends, Help the world you live in.
You got this.
