Every 3-4 months I have to switch up my training routine.
Do you ever get bored doing the same routine month after month ? I’m always envious of people who can go to the gym, or follow the same routine, month after month, for what seems like years.
‘as I thought about it the idea grew on me’
90 percent of all workout programs that I’ve done have lasted 3 months.
I get bored easily and haven’t found any program to keep my interest month after month for a long period of time. Yoga is the only practice I’ve done consistently over the years. Yet, I still took breaks.
I am realizing that 4 months is generally my max with training programs
I just have to switch it up.
Along with changing up the routine, I also challenge myself to work out at times that I generally prefer not to work out.
Over the last few years I have definitely preferred to work out in the morning. As mentioned Orange Theory was 5am. 7am worked for many years and even 10am was good while I was bartending.
‘I am becoming especially appreciative of daily routines and rituals’
Recently I decided to challenge myself to train after work.
At first it made me cringe. As I thought about it the idea grew on me. Exercising and learning a new discipline is a great way to keep the mind fresh and evolving. Building that discipline is also like building a new muscle that hasn’t been trained in a while.
It is easy for us to get stuck in routines.
Routines, however, are not all bad. Routines bring dedication and results. The only way to achieve a goal is to go after it everyday. Thats routine. Results come from routine. These days I am becoming especially appreciative of daily routines and rituals.
‘results come from routine’
Within this understanding, I must continually challenge myself to find a new training program or switch up the times of my training to keep things fresh. This helps me keep boredom at bay and allows me to work on continued discipline.
Are you someone who has a routine everyday that works for you? Or do you need to change it up every couple months?
